Today I am picking you up from wherever you are and putting you in a rowboat. This rowboat has all the supplies you need to live, but you will be alone, and in the middle of an ocean. How helpless would you feel? Do you paddle, do you stay where you are, which direction do you go? How many hours will you spend paddling to only realize you haven't gotten anywhere.
Many people are trying to figure out what they are doing with their lives, they are lost, often just as lost as you would in this rowboat. It's hard to know which way to go when you have no sense of direction. Do you choose this career path or that one, this course or that one, go out with friends tonight, or stay in? All choices we have to make at some point in our lives.
The difference between you and an experienced sailor is they would wait till night, find the north star, and know which direction to go from there. Once they find true north, picking a direction and rowing completely changes. It's hard, it hurts, but they have a direction, a purpose to row towards.
Maybe you don't know what you are going to do in 5 years, in 1 year, 1 month or 1 day. If you have found the north star that’s half the battle. Just keep rowing.
